Yes we can… tax the poor
This administration continues to show us that yes, they can do whatever they want. Remember the promise of less taxes for 95% of Americans? Remember how only the “wealthiest 5%” would pay more taxes? Don’t tell me you really bought that. Oh wait, enough of you did to elect this duo of destruction.
Well, in our show, we’ve talked about how the Obama administration plans to tax the poor by increasing taxes on cigarettes and tobacco. Fortunately for me, this tax will not effect my family. But who will it effect? On the show we stated the case that cigarette taxes are directed at lower income people. This week someone shared this link with us which gives a few statistics about who the smokers are.
Here in our home state of Florida, Charlie “super-conservative” Crist (have I mentioned that I can’t stand this guy?), has the same idea. He just signed a bill to increase taxes on cigarettes in our state. The new tax in Florida is supposed to help them with budget shortfalls. Crist said he signed it because it will discourage people from smoking and called it “a health issue rather than a tax issue”.
The federal tax is supposed to help pay for health care. The Obama administration also makes the claim that the federal tax will help discourage people from smoking. What kind of crap are they feeding us and why are you eating it? (I’m sure it tastes disgusting.) If that were true and it actually helped stop people from smoking, it would completely defeat the purpose of helping budget shortfalls or paying for health care. Something smells bad and I’m not going to eat it.
Still believe they are only going to tax the rich?

I guess I don’t quite see how Charlie Crist’s activities are in any way related to the Obama administration’s. I mean, Obama ran on not raising taxes for 95% of Americans… but how does he get held responsible for the activities of a governor from the other political party? Seems a bit illogical to me.
Sorry Tim, I didn’t mean to confuse you. I was talking about two completely different taxes. If you checked the first link I shared here, the President is looking at a federal tax on cigarettes. I just wanted to add that our wonderful, conservative governor decided he also wanted to impose a state tax on cigarettes. I’m not holding Obama responsible for the actions of Crist. They are two different taxes but equally wrong.
I would also say that while Obama is not responsible by any means for Crist’s actions, Crist’s actions are related to the Obama administration’s in some ways. Like we said on Episode 5, he could not have kept this ponzi scheme that is Florida’s economy going any longer in without the TARP money from the Federal Government, and take the money from the Fed is exactly what he did. So while Obama is not responsible for Charlie’s actions, Tim, some of Crist’s actions are directly dependant on Obama.
